Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic medicine addresses the root cause of illness and disease rather than just treating the symptoms with natural interventions. It starts with supporting the body in its ability to heal itself. Doctors of Naturopathic Medicine assess the whole person, taking into consideration the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of your health.

Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture

Traditional Chinese Medicine is a whole-body approach that involves the insertion of fine, sterile, single-use needles along certain points in the body and Chinese herbs. Acupuncture triggers the release of biochemicals and neurotransmitters which activates a nervous system response that creates blood flow and allows the body to enter a state in which it is better able to heal itself.

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is the manual manipulation of soft tissues and aims to enhance one's health and well-being by addressing discomfort from muscle overuse, daily stressors or chronic pain. This includes muscles, connective tissues, tendons, ligaments and joints.

Osteopathic Manual Therapy

Osteopathy is a natural medicine that aims to restore function in the body by treating the causes of pain and imbalance. Osteopathic Manual Therapy offers cranial sacral therapy, myofascial release, soft tissue and joint mobilization as well as visceral manipulations.

Dr. Kaleigh Anstett ND, joined the Harmony Health team in the spring of 2023. As a Naturopathic Doctor, she aims to effectively diagnose, treat and support her patients as they progress towards a state of greater health.

Dr. Anstett began her training at the University of Guelph, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Kinetics. Following a brief year teaching English in South Korea, she completed her medical education at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto. During her clinical year, she gained valuable experience treating patients on the sports medicine rotation.

In private practice, Dr. Anstett has continued to hone her skills as an integrative sports medicine practitioner. Currently, pain management techniques include a wide variety of injection techniques – prolotherapy, neural and peri-neural injection, in addition to cortisone or platelet-rich plasma injections as indicated (cortisone and PRP are currently only offered in British Columbia.)

Dr. Anstett has also received advanced training in bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (not available in Alberta), orthomolecular medicine, nutrigenomics and gastrointestinal health.

As an integrative practitioner, Dr. Anstett believes in supporting all aspects of a patient’s health and wellness, recognizing that mental, emotional and spiritual well-being contributes significantly to overall well-being. Deficiencies in one sphere often manifest physically and often resolve only after all aspects of health are supported appropriately.

Dr. Anstett encourages the use of specialized functional lab tests where appropriate, utilizing laboratories outside of Canada as needed. Areas of specialization include: - Intravenous therapies - Perineural injection and Prolotherapy - Acupuncture - Hormone assessment and treatment - Clinical Nutrition and nutrigenomics

Colby completed her Bachelor of Kinesiology at the University of Calgary in 2014 with an Advanced Diploma in Athletic Therapy. She has worked with a variety of sports mainly focusing on hockey and rugby. Through this avenue, she discovered Osteopathy and loves the approach of seeing and treating the body as a whole with all systems in mind. In 2021 she completed a 5-year program Osteopathic Manual Therapy program at the Vancouver campus of the Canadian College of Osteopathy.

Colby’s assessments involve looking at the whole body through the musculoskeletal, visceral, and craniosacral systems to determine where the areas of restriction are to be able to relieve pain and increase the quality of life. Treatments involve myofascial release, craniosacral therapy, and visceral manipulation among others to help restore your body to its optimal functioning capacity. Osteopathic treatments are often lighter touch than other professions so many people report they do not “feel” much of the treatment, just the positive effects after.

The goal of treatment is to release tension and areas of restriction so the body can function optimally. Within Osteopathy there is the idea that the body is self-regulating and treatment helps to remove barriers that are preventing health from being able to express itself.

Colby is registered as both an Athletic Therapist and an Osteopathic Manual Practitioner.
